On Good Friday, April 10th, the young people of Ascea staged the passion play (La Via Crucis) as they do every year. Part of the play was performed in the Church of San Nicola di Bari, another part on La Chiazzetta, the small piazza near the church, and the crucification took place on the hill by the Church of San Antonio di Padova.

At an enjoyable and relaxed soirée at the home of Lars and Else Aagaard-Mogensen on February 22, Stefania De Santi played Beethoven's Sonata op. 53, 1st movement and pieces by Chopin for pianoforte. René Mogensen played Allemande from the Second Suite for violoncello by Bach and Syrinx by Debussy, both transcribed for tenor saxophone, What Delay for saxophone and electronics by René Mogensen as well as some standard jazz pieces for solo saxophone. Salvatore Carbone and Else Mogensen read some of their own poems in the Italian language.

Carnevale!
Tuesday was Carnival in Ascea. Traditionally, the floats have allegorical or political themes, and this year the 'Alitalia Circus' was popular. Having seen the floats looking barely ready only a few days before, we were impressed at how quickly they had been turned into a colourful parade.

And this evening, we had the excitement of a lunar eclipse!
